MediaPortal roots lie in the project of Xbox Media Center (XBMC), which aims to build a media center application for the Microsoft Xbox game console. On the first day of the XBMC project, concluded Erwin Beckers (also known as Frodo) that there are notable limitations to the Xbox platform. This is primarily to support the TV card.
Then in February 2004 left the Erwin XBMC project to start a new project, now known as MediaPortal, through more flexible and universal Microsoft Windows platform. First, existing code reused from the XBMC project but after several releases and innumerable feature enhancements, it is almost a completely new design.
In the future
As more and more people become familiar with the advantages of media center software, MediaPortal number of users is growing rapidly every day. Thus, our developers are working hard on MediaPortal 2, a jump forward in time, the media center of the future.
