Apply the “law of diminishing return”, so most effort has been invested in implementing features that are the most benefit and widest general use by the community.
The team
With a core team of over 40 developers, with hundreds of developers community is MediaPortal a broad and active team to give their professional talent and expertise to the project. It is true that open source is best.

“I do not think the speed with which this group of volunteer coders fix any bugs (mine is not damaged or misbehaved in weeks. Several weeks)”
“We have no users, we have fans!”

What really makes MediaPortal our special community of passionate users. Many users will participate actively in the development of each day, to modify and design of the skin, Submitting bug reports, patches for fixes and feature enhancements. As a developer, you get more than 20,000 very enthusiastic and experienced forum users, all eager to test for you. As a new user, you have the same user experts ready to help and support you. And they are!

Since we pride ourselves on our users, we have our software.

MediaPortal roots lie in the project of Xbox Media Center (XBMC), which aims to build a media center application for the Microsoft Xbox game console. On the first day of the XBMC project, concluded Erwin Beckers (also known as Frodo) that there are notable limitations to the Xbox platform. This is primarily to support the TV card.

Then in February 2004 left the Erwin XBMC project to start a new project, now known as MediaPortal, through more flexible and universal Microsoft Windows platform. First, existing code reused from the XBMC project but after several releases and innumerable feature enhancements, it is almost a completely new design.

In the future
As more and more people become familiar with the advantages of media center software, MediaPortal number of users is growing rapidly every day. Thus, our developers are working hard on MediaPortal 2, a jump forward in time, the media center of the future.
